Unitarian Universalists for Drug Policy Reform

WHAT DOES BEING A UUDPR ACTIVE PARTICIPANT ENTAIL?

First, you will receive regular e-mail updates (about once a week), letting you know what's happening in the drug war and the struggle for drug policy reform -- and how you can most effectively respond.

Second, you'll have the opportunity to assist with UUDPR's projects -- whether staffing the booth at GA, speaking at congregations, or running letter-writing campaigns.

Third, you will be invited to participate on UUDPR's electronic bulletin board for an ongoing drug policy discussion.

Finally, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that your financial contribution is funding the important work of helping thousands of UUs study and take action for drug policy reform.

Of course, there's no minimum contribution required. Anything you can give or do to help the cause would be greatly appreciated. Please print and fill out the form (below) mail it with a check or money order to:

Are you a YRUU or Young Adult? (circle one, if applicable)

Special Involvement in UU Movement? (circle all that apply)

Are you employed or volunteer as any of the following? (circle if applicable, and feel free to elaborate)

Which of the following most closely describes the drug policy alternative which you would most like to see implemented for some or all of the currently illegal drugs?

1 = "Legalization" -- either free-market or with various degrees of regulation (for example, like alcohol and/or tobacco)

2 = "Decriminalization and/or Medicalization" -- i.e., removing criminal penalties for using, possessing and/or obtaining drugs (with or without maintaining civil fines); perhaps (but not necessarily) giving addicts the choice to obtain their drugs from licensed medical professionals; perhaps moderate-to-large reductions in prison sentences for distributors; perhaps focus much (or all) of budget on education and treatment, instead of law enforcement and punishment

3 = "Kinder, gentler Prohibition" -- i.e., continuing to arrest people for drug possession, but sentencing them to coerced treatment instead of prison; reducing (but not eliminating) prison sentences for distributors; replacing much (but not all) of the current law enforcement budget with funding for education and treatment

4 = "Status quo" -- e.g., maintaining prison sentences for users and dealers; perhaps some additional money spent on education and/or treatment, but otherwise keeping most money in enforcement; perhaps a few slight-to-moderate penalty reductions; not sure / don't know

Special Circumstances: If you feel comfortable sharing, please provide more information regarding matters such as: Have you ever been arrested for a drug offense? Are you a recovering addict? A current user? A relative of an addict or someone who was ever arrested? Etc. (Use more paper, if necessary.)
